Bus time is 5:00 and will leave from the Middle School. There will be no additional innings played tonight. This is still subject to change based on how the day progresses. A number of our Falcons had a great time at Special Person's Day in LeRoy yesterday! This is a day where the carnival for the LeRoy Fall Festival is opened just for children with devolopmental, physical, and/or sendory disabilities. Students: Are you getting an error message that "Your Connection is Not Private" when you try to visit websites on your Chromebook? Make sure you are signed in to our CIPA Filter. You can find the link in your gcmsk12.org bookmarks then use the Log in With Google button at the bottom. This is also a friendly reminder for all students to check your email regularly! You will find an email from Mr. Willis about this there as well.
GCMS Elementary will host Vision/Hearing Screenings on September 9th -13th with rescreens on Wednesday, September 25th -27th. If families have any questions they can contact the Elementary School office.

GCMS Families: This Friday is a half day for student attendance so there will be no lunch served. We have updated the dining portion of our website but please disregard any lunch listed for Friday 8/23 on any printed copies you may have received.

GCMS Families,
I am sure many of you are aware, and sadly many will be directly affected, of the closing of RhinoAg on the south side of Gibson City. This manufacturing facility has been a long standing staple in our community and 80 people will be losing their jobs in our community.
In our small town when big events happen, the ripple effect is real and we never truly understand how each person is impacted. Our kids of all ages feel those impacts and it can impact them, their focus, their motivation, their happiness. Be kind.
This won't help all but may help some... We have two open 2nd shift custodial positions that will be interviewed very soon, if you know someone who is impacted that may be interested have them reach out to Bob Jones our director of maintenance ASAP (jones.bob@gcmsk12.org).
If a family is impacted financially let the administrators know because families can be provided financial waivers at any time during the year should their family situation change and they become eligible for supports.

The GCMS boys golf team tied for 3rd in a 5 way match vs Leroy (1), Ridgeview (2), Blue Ridge (T3), and Fisher (4). Pictures is Will Baillie on the tee.
The GCMS girls golf team took 3rd place at the Hendricks Women's Invitational at Woodlawn Country Club. Lilyan Sizemore tied for 10th place individually.
Ford County Schools (GCMS, PBL, Tri-Point) are partnering together to decrease chronic absenteeism in our schools. We have worked with the Champaign-Ford County Regional Office of Education to secure an attendance liaison, to work strictly with Ford County Schools. We will be hosting monthly visits at our school with the ROE Attendance liaison during the school day. These visits aim to address the importance of consistent school attendance.
Parent orientation is on Wednesday (August 21st) for 1st-5th grades. Grades 1-3 will be from 5:00-5:45 and 4th and 5th will be from 6:00-6:45. See you then!

Are you ready? We will be hosting Dee Mack for a preseason scrimmage at 7pm. This will be structured as a controlled scrimmage, with the varsity playing 48 plays. The JV will follow once the varsity snaps have concluded. Admission is free. Let's go Falcons!

Here are a few reminders as we get ready to begin school next week:
1. Doors open and breakfast starts at 7:45 AM daily.
2. School day begins at 8:15 AM.
3. The first week of school we have 2:20 dismissal Monday-Thursday. Friday's student dismissal is at 11:30.
4. Picture Day for the High School is on Monday, August 19. Forms are available at the school or at https://vsi.co/
5. If you child is going to be gone from school, please notify the office by 9 AM the day of the absence. If you know of pre-arranged absences, please let the office know prior to the absences.
6. Emails are already being sent to your students so encourage them to begin checking them regularly for back to school information.
