GCMS Families,
I want to take a moment and address the intention and use of social media by GCMS and our hopes for community engagement and commentary.
GCMS utilizes social media for announcements, information, and celebration. It is NOT intended to be a platform for social debate or critique. We welcome both debate and critique, which is why I often leave my contact information at the end of a message, but both civility and intention are often lost in the written word (intentionally and unintentionally) and it turns our sites into culture crushers instead of community builders. When posts are created we often use brevity to encourage greater consumption of the information owning that not all people need all information, and with brevity comes minimized detail for understanding. This fact is again why we often connect a contact person should you have questions because some want more understanding and we are very willing to share.
We have over 1,000 students, 2,500 care givers, 200 adults who work in our system, and countless community members or extended family that follow our sites, being able to fully explain each and every announcement or detail is simply not practical or applicable.
On occasion, we miss the mark on understanding and delivery and when that happens we can correct, often times those corrections are stemmed from someone sharing a critique or perspective we did not see. We thank you for that.
Many public entities have shifted to shutting off comments to curb scams, trolling, and negative commentary that gets very personal. We choose to not do this because the amazing shares and commentary for celebrations and positive events far outweigh the negative.
We will continue to try and improve our communication and awareness for all things GCMS and I hope those who need further understanding seek it from the source and work collaboratively and positively respecting that very few policies, processes, and practices are holistically embraced.
As always if you have a question you can email or call to share your input.
