Mr. Renchen's 6th grade Music Appreciation class had the opportunity to video chat with GCMS alum Sophie Hafer (Class of 2017) regarding music composition. The students are working on creating their own music compositions and gathered insight from Sophie on how to go about creating melodies from scratch and how to refine their creations. The students enjoyed meeting a fellow GCMS student who was in the very same classroom not too long ago! After graduating from GCMS, Sophie moved to Chicago and attended Columbia College to study music composition & piano performance. In 2018, she began working in the music licensing industry with “Pink Shark Music”. There, she is responsible for managing the Pink Shark Music catalog, writing custom music for shows, and pitching music to a variety of shows each day. The company services an average of 300 TV shows each year. Sophie has done personal work on shows like Dancing with the Stars, MTV’s Behind the Music, the iCarly reboot, Nickelodeon’s Young Dylan, Anderson Cooper 360, AFV, and many more. Off the clock, Sophie performs in a variety of bands around Chicago, singing & playing keyboard. Some of her notable performances include playing with Jefferson Starship and opening for Chicago blues legend Buddy Guy. Sophie also travels each Spring with the Chicago Cubs as part of their house band for their late night talk show “Off the Mound". Around Chicagoland, Sophie has gained local recognition for playing Christine McVie in "The Chain" Fleetwood Mac tribute band, of which she has been a member since 2017. More information about Sophie Hafer can be found on Facebook.
