On Wednesday, February 7th administrators from Ford County Schools met with staff from the Champaign-Ford County Regional Office of Education Attendance Improvement Program to discuss and collaborate on improving attendance in all our schools. One area all our schools have been discussing is the increase of chronic absenteeism for students in Ford County Schools. Chronic absenteeism is when a student misses 10% of the school year or 17.5 days or more of school in one year.

GCMS Families, Parking at large events at each of our facilities can be a challenge at times. We want to remind everyone to be respectful of school district and neighboring properties when you park. It is essential that you do not park on grass areas or obstruct drive ways, entry points, or fire lanes. Recently we have had significant issues with this around the high school campus. If areas are painted yellow or they are entry or exit points they should not be obstructed. Thank you for your attention, compliance, and the appreciation for safety at our events.

GCMS Families, Please be aware that there will be a tree removal taking place on the corner of Lott Blvd and 17th Street on Tuesday, February 6th. This work should not disrupt the school day, but we want everyone to be aware during transitions. The solar installation is ongoing at both the Middle and High Schools so continue to be aware of workers and equipment when you are on school property and surrounding roads. We hope to have this project complete by Spring Break. Thanks for your attention! - Mr. Darnell

Welcome to the 1900's! (Well at least for today in Mrs. Young's Baking Essentials class at the high school.) Each month, the class plans to bake a recipe from a different decade found in the Baking Yesteryear cookbook (@bdylanhollisofficial). Today's recipe was Food for the Gods. The name is thought to have come from the dates/apricots and walnuts in the recipe, they were once considered expensive delicacies, making them fit only for divine consumption. Students learned about the delicacies of meringue in making the base for the recipe. It is described in the cookbook as a "marshmallowy, fruited meringue with an amazing graham cracker nuttiness. Check out the recipe for yourself at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PcJYLc2J3k
