Middle School Sports This Week

A reminder that there is no school on Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

A regular attendance routine is important for your child’s well-being, learning and long-term success. Nutrition, sleep, exercise, and hygiene all play important roles in staying healthy. here are some tips for those areas:
-eat a good breakfast
-regular bedtime and morning routine
-stay active at least 60 minutes a day
-routine hand washing
-brush teeth twice a day
-avoid close contact with those who are sick
-cover coughs and sneezes

GCMS Middle School is putting on our first dance of the year sponsored by Geography Club on February 7th from 6:30-8:30. It is going to be a Valentine's Day themed dance. We will be providing snacks and drinks for students to purchase at the dance. We are in need of volunteers for the dance to help monitor students, and collect cash for the items. It is $5 to enter the dance. If you would like to volunteer or if you have any questions please reach out to Mrs. Purcell-Givens at purcell-givens.rebecca@gcmsk12.org.

Middle School Sports Schedule This Week

Good afternoon,
I wanted to make everyone aware of the dates the IESA has set for tryouts for Middle School Softball and Baseball for next year. While both of these dates are months away, I know many are starting to look at summer vacations. As such, I wanted to provide these dates so preparations could be made as needed.
Tryouts for Middle School Softball will begin on Monday, July 28th. Tryouts for Middle School Baseball will begin on Monday, August 4th. If these dates happen to change, I will communicate those changes.
Thank you,
AJ Richard

Classes resume tomorrow, Tuesday January 7. We look forward to seeing everyone!

Tonight's (1/6) Freshman Basketball game at Tuscola has been cancelled.

We are Falcon Proud of Senior Lucas Clinton, who was selected to perform in the Illinois High School Theatre Fest All State Show, The Prom. Lucas auditioned over the summer with hundreds of other students from all across the state, and was one of 39 students selected for the cast. Since then, he has spent one long weekend a month rehearsing with his fellow castmates. He will spend this week doing multiple performances of the show a day at the Theatrefest Conference, and we are so excited to see him shine!

GCMS Families,
Just a quick reminder that school will resume for all students on Tuesday, January 7th.
There is a lot of illness out there and we want to remind everyone that children should not be sent to school unless fever free for 24 hours without medication, or if experiencing vomiting or diarrhea. Attendance at school every day is very important but not at the expense of making others sick!
We look forward to seeing everyone next week , enjoy the remainder of break!
Sincerely,
Mr. Darnell

Thursday was Pep Band Alumni Night at the basketball game. We loved seeing so many former band students join us on the stage!

Happy last day everyone! In true Illinois weather fashion we have some slick road conditions out there this morning. Please allow extra time and move slow in the transitions to school. We look forward to a fun last day with our kiddos and a long break for everyone.
Go slow, be safe!
Happy Holidays!
- Mr. Darnell
