GCMS Middle School

Good morning GCMS Middle School! Today is Tuesday, October 25th.

Would you now please rise and recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Students, as you know this is the last week for the Socktober competition.  Here are the current totals.  3rd Place: Mrs. Thames class with 11 pairs of socks.  2nd Place: Mrs. Freehill with 21 pairs.  1st place: Mrs. Allen with 35 pairs.

There is sign-up info on the counter in the office for any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade boys and girls interested in going out for Middle School Wrestling.  Wrestling practice begins Nov. 28.  Be sure to take an info packet and sign up on the sheet if you are interested.  See Coach Berry if you have any questions.

Attention student council members, your next meeting is tomorrow morning at 7:30 in Mr. Hoogstraat’s room.

Geography Club will meet this Thursday at 7:30 AM in Mrs. Ricks’ room.

Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade girls basketball teams.  Both teams won their semi-final round games last night which means they will be playing for the Twin County Conference Tournament title on Wednesday night.  The 7th grade team won last night over Iroquois West by a score of 21-5.  They will face Prairie Central in the title game at 5:30 tomorrow night.  The 8th grade team beat Watseka in overtime by a score of 25-22.  They will also play against Prairie Central for the championship at 6:45 tomorrow night.

Red Ribbon fact of the day: 17 percent of high school students reported riding in a car driven by someone who had been drinking.28 In the same year, 1,844 young drivers ages 15-20 years were killed. Of those, 440 of the young drivers had alcohol in their systems, and 362 had a blood alcohol content above the legal limit for those legally allowed to drink alcohol. Drinking and driving is not only illegal, but dangerous. Don’t drink and drive!

Today in enrichment you will be working on a Kahoot!  Each enrichment should do this together, and the nickname should be the teacher's name.  Winners will be announced this afternoon- this does count towards the total points for the week.

We would like for all students to do their check-in during the 1st hour.  This helps make sure that Mrs. V and Mrs. J can get to anyone who wants a check-in throughout the day.

Also students, please make sure that your cellphones are off and stored in your locker and please be sure to sign up for hot lunch.

Students, please remember to follow our school-wide expectations of Be on Time, Be Prepared, Be Respectful, and Be Safe.

Thank you and have a fantastic day Falcons!
