Winter Weather Communication 2025-2026

Posted Date: 12/01/25 (09:58 AM)

A child bundled in red winter gear sits on a sled, with the words 'Winter is Here'.

The GCMS School District carefully monitors weather conditions throughout the winter months. When snow, ice, or hazardous conditions may impact travel, the district follows a thorough process to determine whether school will open or close. Our highest priority is always the safety and security of our students and staff.

District officials evaluate road conditions across the area and review updated weather forecasts before making any decision. Because weather can vary across our large district, these decisions are not always easy—but student and staff safety remains the determining factor.

👉 When weather forecasts are questionable, we strongly encourage parents to have a plan in place in case school is canceled or delayed. Preparing ahead of time helps ensure a smooth morning for families should changes occur.

How We Will Notify Families of a School Closure or Delay

As soon as a decision is made, GCMS will share the information immediately through the following communication methods:

ParentSquare Post/Mass text notification to all families and staff. School cancellation notices will be sent as an “alert” via ParentSquare which includes a text message along with the app notifications. *this is our primary channel for communication to families and staff

Please Make Sure You Receive District Messages

Important Reminder About ELearning Days

In the event that GCMS chooses to utilize an elearning day, families will receive communication on expectations from teachers. ParentSquare will be the primary method for communication, though some resources may be sent home physically or shared via Gmail and Google Classroom. Families are encouraged to contact teachers with any questions.
