GCMS Middle School

MS Softball and Baseball Families,

Softball and Baseball seasons are coming soon.  As of now, GCMS is planning on beginning those seasons on time.  Softball tryouts are set to begin on Mon. July 27 from 8-10AM at the High School Softball field.  Baseball tryouts are set to begin on Mon. Aug. 3 from 9-11AM at the Middle School Baseball field.  All athletes must have their required paperwork turned in prior to trying out.  This includes:

-GCMS Athletic Insurance Verification Form

-GCMS Medical Release Form

-GCMS Concussion Information Form

-IESA/IHSA Physical Exam Form (must be signed by a doctor)

-proof of insurance (copy of insurance card or letter from insurance company)

-GCMS COVID-19 Consent to Participate form

No one will be allowed to participate unless all of their paperwork has been submitted.  All forms are available on the DOCS/FORMS section of the GCMS Website and as an added feature, many can now be filled out online and emailed to the coaches.

IMPORTANT:

Due to concern over COVID-19, we are currently unsure of what our seasons are going to look like.  The IESA is still considering whether to allow games and it seems as if the situation changes every day.  Our plan is to begin tryouts and practices on their scheduled dates, but beyond that we are waiting for more information.  It is certain that in order to conduct our activities, we will have to abide by some modifications.  These modifications are based on the IHSA’s Phase 4 Return to Play Plan.  In that spirit, besides bringing their normal softball and baseball gear, athletes will be required to abide by the following protocols:

1.  All athletes will be required to bring a mask and their own water/drink to practice.

2.  All athletes will be given a temperature/symptom check prior to practice.  Anyone with a fever >=100.4 or who exhibits possible COVID-19 symptoms will not be allowed to participate.

3.  Hand washing/sanitizing will be encouraged.

4.  Social distancing will be followed where possible.

We hope to get more clarification in the next couple of weeks, but the coaches have plans in place to make sure that practices are conducted safely and in order to be able to go forward, we need full cooperation with those plans.  We appreciate your support on this important topic.  Please contact your coach with any sport-specific questions and we will do our best to keep everyone updated as we learn more information.
